LI Elemental Dynamics - Impact Crater

It's not what killed the dinosaurs...

LI Elemental Dynamics - Impact Crater started as a single highly detailed impact crater. Before long, it evolved into a versatile asset capable of producing everything from subtle depressions and sand pits to massive impact sites and rugged rocky landscapes.

At the heart of the pack is the LI ED-IC - Base Mesh, a high-density square terrain mesh loaded with a large collection of adjustment morphs. Its primary foundation consists of four unique impact crater designs, each supplied with its own simple 8K texture set and four sculpted variations:

  • Base
  • Bulbous
  • Clipped
  • Ridges

One of this asset's great advantages is that the crater shapes and crater materials are completely interchangeable. Mixing one crater shape with another crater's textures often produces entirely new looks, and when combined with the extensive adjustment morphs, the number of possible terrain variations grows quickly.

To expand the system further, I've also included three additional terrain shapes, a bonus crater mound, and dedicated 8K texture sets for each. There's also a collection of rock assets and a meteorite. The meteorite includes its own adjustment morphs, allowing you to reshape it and create a variety of different rocky appearances.

Because this pack is primarily geared towards large-scale environments and distant views, I also wanted it to hold up during close-up renders. To help achieve that, I've created a highly detailed rocky soil material system complete with a range of displacement presets, allowing you to produce richly detailed ground surfaces without relying on additional geometry - or cleverly combine them to create the illusion of it.

I really wished I could have the best of both worlds, but you can only squeeze so much detail out of an 8K texture!

For even greater flexibility, I've included the LI ED-IC - Base Soil, a lower-density circular mesh designed to work alongside the LI ED-IC - Base Rocks. The rocks are fitted to the soil mesh and automatically follow its morphs, making it quick and easy to create highly detailed rocky patches wherever you need them.

Both the Base Mesh and Base Soil have been designed with seamless UV layouts, allowing you to apply your own tileable materials with ease. I've also included a large collection of opacity maps to make blending terrain shapes and materials simple and intuitive.

Like many products in the LI Elemental Dynamics range, this isn't about creating one specific scene - it's about giving you a flexible collection of assets that encourage experimentation. Mix the terrain shapes, swap the crater materials, add rocks, reshape the landscape, and build something that's entirely your own... or combine it with other products in the range to create even larger environments.

Happy rendering!
